Eosin is a chemically synthesized acidic dye that dissociates into negatively charged anions in water, which can combine with positively charged cations on the amino groups of proteins, thereby staining the cell cytoplasm with varying degrees of red or pink, in contrast to the blue nuclei stained by hematoxylin staining solution, making hematoxylin eosin (HE) staining one of the most widely used conventional staining methods for pathological tissue sections.
